World Down Syndrome Day

The Union County Educational Services Foundation has been a beacon of hope and progress since its establishment in 1994. It was created as an independent organization with a heartfelt mission: to provide funding for innovative, non-traditional programs developed by the Commission, programs that empower students with special needs to become confident, self-reliant individuals and active, thriving members of their community.

In January 1995, this vision was strengthened when the Foundation was granted 501(c)(3) status by the Internal Revenue Service, solidifying its commitment to making a lasting difference in the lives of these students.

The Foundation is fueled by a passionate group of individuals who deeply appreciate the exceptional work the Commission carries out daily. The board is composed of former and current UCESC staff, devoted parents and family members of former UCESC students, and compassionate community supporters who, through their connection to the Commission, have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of its programs. Together, they form a dedicated force united by their love and belief in the limitless potential of every student.

Fundraising Campaigns

Since its inception, the Union County Educational Services Foundation (UCESF) has worked tirelessly to raise funds for impactful, large-scale initiatives that benefit the special student populations served by the Commission. The Foundation has supported key projects such as building a playground for students at Crossroads School, launching a community-based life skills program for Lamberts Mill Academy students, and introducing the Pre-Employment Training Skills Project (P.E.T.S.) at Westlake School. These efforts have been instrumental in empowering students to reach their full potential.

The Foundation has also been the proud recipient of funds raised through the annual “Drive for Autism” Golf Tournament and special events hosted by the New Jersey Chapter of the BMW Car Club of America. These collaborative efforts have brought in significant resources to enhance programs and provide specialized tools and updated curriculum for students, including assistive educational technology and alternative communication devices for those diagnosed with autism.

The support of generous donors and partners plays a vital role in advancing UCESF's mission to create enriching opportunities for students. Schools and Programs We Support

The Union County Educational Services Commission (UCESC), founded in June 1969, was created as a public education agency to address the needs of students whose academic, social, or emotional challenges could not be adequately met in traditional classroom settings or within their local district special education programs. UCESC proudly serves all 21 municipalities in Union County, ensuring inclusive access to tailored educational programs and services.

From the very beginning, UCESC has faced the evolving demands of a growing student population requiring specialized instruction, compounded by the impact of societal changes that profoundly influence children’s lives. Today, UCESC has expanded its reach and impact, providing services to more than 7,000 students each year and continuing its mission to foster growth, independence, and achievement for every child it serves.
